Ingredients:
1 cup husked black gram 4 tbsp ghee 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/8 tsp asafoetida 1 tbsp ginger juliennes 1 tsp green chilies- juliennes 1/2 tsp turmeric 1 tsp salt or to taste 1/2 tsp chili powder fried, browned onions for garnish
Method: Wash the dal till the water runs clear and then soak in 2 cups of hot water for 2 hours. Heat the ghee, and add cumin and asafetida. Add ginger and green chilies, sauté little and add the dal Turn around to mix well, and add the turmeric, salt and chili powder. Add 2 cups hot water, bring to a boil and lower the heat, cook covered for about 10 minutes. Till waiter dries up and its dry Serve hot garnished with the fried onions and green chilies
